GIMC TO HOLD COVID VACCINATION EVENT AT UNMGALLUP ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 23.

January 20, 2021 - The Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC) announced today that it will conduct a COVID-19 vaccination event on Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. for individuals, ages 65 and over, who are residents of the Gallup Service Unit, or receive healthcare primarily at GIMC. The event will be held at the UNMGallup Gymnasium located at 705 Gurley Avenue in Gallup, New Mexico. A total of 600 doses will be available at the event on a first come, first served basis.
鈥淲e are so honored to continue our service to the local community and provide our Physical Education Complex to GIMC for this important vaccination event,鈥 said Dr. James Malm, chancellor of UNMGallup. 鈥淚t will take us all doing our part to see our way out of this pandemic, and it is so heartening to see these events begin in our community.鈥

It is recommended not to have the COVID-19 vaccine within two weeks of other vaccines. Due to the severe health risks associated with COVID-19 and the fact that reinfection with COVID-19 is possible, individuals who have previously tested positive for COVID-19 are able to receive the vaccine after 14 days of being free of COVID symptoms. Additionally, current evidence suggests that reinfection with the virus that causes COVID-19 is uncommon in the 90 days after initial infection. Therefore, people with a recent infection may delay vaccination until the end of that 90-day period if desired.
