What We Offer

UNMGallup is one of the 26 adult education programs in New Mexico offering FREE classes for high school equivalency test preparation, refresher courses for getting ready to attend college, and help exploring career and education pathway. Math, reading and writing courses are taught by qualified, experienced and caring teachers. Each instruction session is 7 weeks with face-to-face courses, and limited online and remote learning.

How to start

  1. Submit an .

  2. Attend a mandatory orientation. (see dates below)

    • Session 1: July 15-19, 2024
    • Session 2: Sept. 16-20, 2024
    • Session 3: Nov. 18-22, 2024
    • Session 4: Feb. 3-7, 2025
    • Session 5: April 21-25, 2025

  3. Take the placement test to see where you  will start. Test will be provided on the last two days of orientation.

  4. Start your classes.

Upon enrolling in the UNMGallup Adult Basic Education Program, a student will be given a placement test in Reading/Writing and Math. The test scores will determine which level of instruction they will be placed in. After completing a level of instruction, the student will tast again to determine if they are ready for the next level. When the student completes all level of instruction in each track of learning, they will be ready to take the HiSET® high school equivalency exam. UNMGallup ABE will support you throughout your journey to success!


Services

Career Pathways Exploration

Preceding each session is a week where reading, language, writing, and math skills are assessed. Also, career exploration activities are held in order for each individual to explore their own interest and write down some specific steps on the pathway to several futures.

HiSET® Preparation

Classes are offered to help students prepare to take that (high school equivalency) test. Students progress at their own pace. Once the students is ready, the HiSET® online exam will be administered. Students must sign up in advance to attend the sessions.

New Student Orientation (June 2024 - July 2025)

Mandatory orientation sessions:
*orientation starts at 9 a.m.

  • Session 4: Feb. 3-7, 2025

All sessions are 7-weeks long. Each class meets twice a week (3.0 hours per class/2x's per week=6 hours total class time per subject each week).
